Friday Bus to Falls Church, VA

If your camper is signed up for our Friday bus service, your camper will board a bus here at camp around 4:30 PM and be given a "bag lunch" meal for dinner. It is approximately a two-hour bus ride to the drop-off location at Meridian High School in Falls Church, Virginia.

We expect campers to arrive by about 6:30 PM (depending on traffic).  We need all parents to be at the drop-off point no later than 6:30 PM so that the bus can make its return to camp on time.

  • Because of ongoing construction near the high school, please navigate to Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School at 105 Mustang Alley, Falls Church, VA 22043 which is adjacent to the high school.

  • Enter the school property off of Leesburg Pike (please do not use Haycock Road to access Mustang Alley due to construction).

  • Park in the trapezoidal-shaped parking lot shown on the map in blue.

The bus chaperones will have a sign-out sheet and will coordinate the pickup by releasing one camper at a time. Please do not crowd the bus upon arrival, but rather form a single line to assist in an orderly and efficient departure. Only pre-authorized adults will be able to sign-out each camper, so please confirm that whoever is picking up your camper is listed on the authorized pick-up list on your camper’s home page.

In case of serious delays (of more than 45 minutes) or emergency, you will receive a “recorded message” from camp via phone call.  We have contracted with a service provider that will automatically dial the appropriate camper families and play a message recorded by the camp.  The automated dialing service will call the following numbers as listed on your Camper’s Home Page at the start of your camper’s session: home phone, both parents’ cell phones.

The bus chaperones and/or the bus driver will conduct a brief safety review regarding expected camper behavior during the trip.  Your camper is expected to abide by these guidelines while on the bus. These guidelines include but are not limited to the Sandy Hill Camp guidelines: be safe, respect others, be where you are supposed to be, and take care of Sandy Hill. They also include staying seated while the bus is moving and using a quiet tone of voice so as not to distract the driver.

If you have any questions, please call the camp office at 410-287-5554.
