Most Weekends Off
Unlike most other camps, you have most of your weekends off from 6PM on Friday to around 1PM on Sunday. Most staff are required to work 30 “weekend shift hours” over the course of their 8 weekends at camp. Being a two-week cabin counselor for a two-week camper session counts toward weekend shift hours as do various other weekend roles such as lifeguarding, boat driving, ropes course, kitchen, housekeeping and more.
On the weekends when you are off, you are encouraged to rest. Camp provides meals on the weekends as well as opportunities for entertainment and travel.
Staff are permitted to leave camp on the weekends, and Sandy Hill typically sponsors staff day trips to New York City, Washington DC, and Rehoboth Beach. For those that stay at camp on the weekends, camp typically provides some meals and recreational opportunities.
